This short video, shown at the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) - Technology Solutions For Tourism Conference 2015 shows how Fairfax in America used technology to raise awareness of its tourism offering.
The event which is now its fifth year brings technology and tourism businesses together to identify opportunities to use technology to ensure they meet the changing expectations of Scotland’s digital tourist.
The communications campaign used iconic imagery of famous former residents including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. QR codes where placed over the mouths of the famous faces on posters displayed on bus stops and billboards around New York. Passers-by where invited to place their mobile phones in front of the image which would make the poster appear to come to life and they would hear a story about Fairfax County from the mouth of Thomas Jefferson or George Washington.
The campaign was a great success leading to a 2,711% increase in Facebook post reach as well as a 1000% increase in Facebook page likes.
